LIT Library has implemented a new search engine called ‘Summon’

What is Summon? Summon is a powerful Google-like search engine that allows library researchers to discover material of all sorts through a single search box. It holds listings for journals, books, eBooks, thesis, videos, newspaper articles, government documents, reports, conference papers and more. Summon searches everything currently available in the Classic Library Catalogue, in addition to much of the content of our on-line databases and offers fast access to content such as eJournals or eBooks. From search results, it is one step to the full-text articles or you can see if a book is available. Summon is good starting place when you are uncertain about which discipline-specific library database to use and it can be very helpful when you are beginning research on a subject that is new to you or investigating a multidisciplinary topic. Advantages in using Summon: Through one simple search, it provides instant access to credible and reliable library content – digital and print. Results can be limited to items immediately available in full text online. Search results include citations of many kinds of sources: books, journal and newspaper articles, conference proceedings and more. Search results can be limited by content type, library location, subject terms, publication date, language and more. Searches can include materials that are not part of the library collections, but which can easily be requested through our Inter Library Loan service. Citations in your search results can be viewed in commonly used citation formats, exported to Endnote, emailed and printed. You will find Summon on the library home page http://mislibsrv.lit.ie or at http://lit.summon.serialssolutions.com/ ”Quick Start Guide” on how to search Summon is available at: http://mislibsrv.lit.ie/screens/Summonguide.pdf
