WELCOME BACK

Hi All, we're delighted to have you all back, It's been a lonely 'ol Summer without the vast majority of our students and patrons.

However in your absence we have spring cleaned and bought, bought, bought! We have fantastic new book stocks in both campus libraries (check out "new books" on our homepage), a seriously amazing new DVD collection (10 new Stanley Kubricks, 7-49 Up, Fellini's 8 1/2 weeks, Musica Futurista-art of noises, Rainer Werner Fassbinder Collection 1973-1982, anthology of noise and electronic music.....the list goes on and on) and many new journals (show Details Paris, Show Details World and Show Details Men, to name a few).

This Summer we also said farewell to a treasured Library staff member Margaret MacMahon, a very special Lady who retired this August and who will be missed terribly by all of us. We had an old shindig to wish her the very best, and above are a few photos.

What was your favourite childhood book? Anne and Barry of course, some of the best reading of my life, put me where I am today !! What books had the most influence on you in your college days? Was big into “The Lord of the Rings” collection, including the less read “The Hobbit” which was the prelude to Lord of the Rings Do you have any memory or story about your college library? University of Limerick’s library wasn’t as good as LSAD’s library, so nothing good enough to talk about, staff here are brilliant!! (we like this answer) If you were stranded on a desert Island what book would you like to have with you? Pirates of the Carribbean Bookset, so I could understand the lingo when hanging out with the ‘One eyed Patchies’ :P

LSAD STUDENTS AND STAFF OVERWHELM US WITH THEIR LOVELY RESPONSE TO "FAVOURITE LIBRARY BOOK"

During library Week, LSAD Library held a competition to find “Your Favourite LSAD Library Book” we were inundated with entries and overwhelmed by the sheer passion of the responses.

There were 6 lucky winners; Elizabeth Twomey, Paul Campbell, Amy Hanley, Joe Noonan, Kieran Cashell, Darius Pasadar and Amy Taylor. Well done to all and a big thank you to our sponsors: O’Mahonys Bookshop, Curley Copy Centre, Collins Book Supply, Dawsons Book Supply and M-Signs.

Head of Department of Art and Design took us on a "secret history" of her reading.. and what a delight it was!

What was your favourite childhood book? The Adventures of "Robin Hood" by Roger Lancelyn Green. In fact, I wanted to be Robin Hood for most of my childhood. From the age of nine or so, I was also fascinated by mythology, especially Norse tales of the gods.
What was the book that had the most influence on you in your college days? That’s a tricky one, as I spent a huge amount of my college days reading. Possibly "The Haunting of Hill House" by Shirley Jackson, the most perfect ghost story ever written.
Do you have any memory or story about your college library? Sitting in a cosy nook reading armloads of novels that had absolutely nothing to do with my designated courses…I believe I termed it ‘reading around the subject’.
If you were stranded on a desert Island what book would you like to have with you? One book? I’m afraid I’d need more. Preferably a library. But in the absence of same, I’d like "The Bloody Chamber" by Angela Carter, "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt, the complete works of Shirley Jackson, the collected works of Jane Austen and the complete works of Shakespeare.
